Fostering FAQ’s

1) What is involved with fostering a GetALong Dachshund Rescue (GDR) dog?

To become an approved foster for GDR you must complete the foster application, undergo a rigorous screening, including reference checks, vet checks, and a home visit.

2) What is a foster required to provide for a GDR foster dog?

The most important thing all fosters provide to the GDR pups is a loving safe home. Opening your homes to these pups provides them with the time to build their confidence and sense of security. If you are able to feed them, that’s great. If special food is required, we will provide it.

3) What happens if the dog gets sick or needs vetting?

Prior to receiving your foster dog, the rescue will set up an account with a vet in your area. In the event of an emergency, immediately take your dog to the vet, and notify either De Cunningham, Tiffany Newton, or Georgia Manley. Phone numbers will be provided upon approval. If routine vetting is needed contact Tiffany Newton to discuss the situation. GDR does not expect fosters to be responsible for any approved vetting costs.

4) Will I have a say in the adoption process for my foster?

Foster families are a wealth of information about their pups. We will rely on your assessments and concerns. The overall approval will be from the adoption team.

5) What happens if we fall in love with our foster?

This happens frequently. If you want to adopt your foster please let us know. The goal of fostering is finding an excellent forever home for the GDR pups.
