Larry
I lost my little red-headed doxie, Skwirt in November 2017. He was almost 18 years old. I was devastated and didn’t think I would have room in my heart for another. But in early 2018, as soon as I saw Luke on GDR’s Facebook page, I immediately fell in love. I emailed, and someone responded right away. The process went pretty quickly from the initial application to the home visit. They provided access so that I was able to personally talk to Luke’s foster mom. Luke was being fostered in Florida and I live in Pennsylvania.
Once Luke was officially adopted and the transport was arranged, GDR provided me with his itinerary and the names of everyone that would be involved along the entire route. They sent me pictures with each new change of driver and placed him in my arms within 30 minutes of their estimated arrival time.
About a year and a half later we decided we wanted to adopt another pup, so I contacted GDR again. They immediately emailed me pictures and bios of available dogs that they thought would make a good match for us, and most importantly, Luke. We ended up adopting a dapper senior gentleman named Larry who was being fostered in Alabama. They immediately provided the name and phone number of Larry’s foster mom so I could speak with her prior to making our decision. It was a no brainer and Larry was officially adopted. Again, prior to transport, GDR sent Larry’s travel itinerary and photos from start to finish. Larry arrived safely at our home within minutes of his ETA.
I cannot say enough about this rescue. They truly do everything they can to make sure the dogs are placed in a safe and loving home. I would (and have) recommended them to anyone that asks.
We love GDR and will be forever grateful for our furbabies.

Phoebe
These two photos made me cry. Uh huh. CRY. Tears of joy at seeing this beautiful little Phoebe actually playing!
Phoebe was rescued by Getalong Dachshund Rescue in early October 2014 and wasn’t even close to healthy enough to go into a foster home until close to Christmas! It’s been touch and go with Phoebe’s diabetes as she and her FM Sandra Jackson struggle with the effects doxycycline has on diabetes, sometimes so severe that Phoebe goes into what we “not so fondly” refer to as a diabetic crisis. Phoebe fought back with the help of her FM!! And today, this is Phoebe at play…The post by Phoebe’s FM Sandra, says it best:
“Phoebe is playing! !!! With a toy!!!!! This is such an amazing thing. Why? She became my foster Dec 19th, 1 week after a spay/mastectomy, with wildly unregulated diabetes. She weighed barely 7 lbs. She loved attention but was very cautious. Not at all sure she wouldn’t be hurt. She was food aggressive and like a vacuum with every crumb. Now, although still not regulated, she’s up to 10 lbs, knows she’ll be fed and an absolute cuddle bug. Even sleeping in my bed, claiming herself a pillow. Today, for the 1st time, she initiated play. With a toy! Her courage and ability to forgive and LOVE should inspire each of us. I can’t tell you the feeling that filled my heart as I watched her this morning. Yes…I cried. And laughed. And played with her. This is why we rescue. This is why we foster. This is why GDR says “yes, we’ll take her/him” when other rescues walk away! GDR gives our furbabies the chance & ability to play again. And love again. And that, my friends, is PRICELESS!”
This is why we need YOUR help! Did you know that it costs a MINIMUM of $200. per month to support a diabetic dog? If you can, please make a donation to Phoebe (and mark it “Phoebe”) via PayPal to getalongdoxie@gmail.com

Getalong Dachshund Rescue is a terrific rescue. I found them 5 years ago when looking for a dog to adopt and I really wanted a Dachshund. GDR makes sure that their rescues go to very good homes. I have adopted from them 4 times and each doxie was vetted to so the adopter knew what kind of personality that they had. I highly recommend GDR to everyone looking to rescue a dachshund or dachshund mix. The GDR members are always available for questions and/or help. – Gineen G
